Terms of Service
Last updated September 1, 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Recall — the web application, mobile application, and related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What the Service does
Recall lets you upload your own study materials (notes, documents, images of handwritten pages). The Service uses artificial intelligence to extract concepts, definitions, relationships, and questions from those materials, and builds study activities, flashcards, progress tracking, and a study tutor around them.
3. AI-generated content — read this one
Much of what the Service shows you is generated by AI from your uploads, and AI-generated content can be wrong. It can misread a document, extract a concept incorrectly, mark a right answer wrong (or a wrong answer right), invent details that were not in your notes, generate flawed practice questions or predictions, or give inaccurate tutor answers. Specifically:
- AI output is a study aid, not a source of truth. Always verify important material against your original notes, textbooks, and instructors.
- "Exam predictions", mastery scores, and recommendations are estimates. They are not a promise about what will appear on any exam or a guarantee of any grade, score, or learning outcome.
- The Service is not a substitute for professional advice of any kind (including medical, legal, or financial advice), even if your study materials cover those subjects.
- Some activities deliberately show you incorrect statements to correct (for example, Peer Review) — that is part of the study method, and those statements are clearly framed as claims to check.
You are responsible for how you use AI output. We do not accept liability for academic or other outcomes that result from relying on it without verification.
4. Your account
You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure; you are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you upload. By uploading, you grant us a limited license to store and process your materials solely to operate the Service for you — including sending relevant excerpts to our AI provider to generate your study content. We do not sell your materials or use them to advertise to you. Only upload content you have the right to use; do not upload materials that infringe someone else's copyright (for example, pirated textbooks) or that contain other people's personal data without permission.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or use the Service to facilitate academic dishonesty (for example, live assistance during a proctored exam);
- probe, overload, or interfere with the Service, or bypass usage limits, credit metering, or access controls;
- scrape, resell, or provide the Service to third parties, or reverse-engineer it except where the law allows;
- upload malware or content that is unlawful, or abusive.
7. Plans, trials, and billing
The Service is offered as monthly subscriptions with a set monthly allowance of AI credits; study games are not metered. Each plan begins with a free trial (currently 3 days) — a payment method is collected at signup and the first charge occurs when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. Subscriptions renew monthly until canceled. You can cancel anytime from the billing portal in Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period, and fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never store your card details. Unused credits do not roll over. We may change prices or allowances with notice effective at your next renewal.
8. Access and availability
We work to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. We may modify features over time. If an account has no active subscription, AI features are paused while existing data and games remain accessible.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or create risk for other users, with notice where practical. On termination we will delete or de-identify your content as described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING SECTION 3, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR RELIABLE.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR ACADEMIC OUTCOMES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes we will give notice (for example, in the app or by email) before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
13. Governing law & contact
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Questions about these Terms: support@example.com.
